Barrels

Barrels is another Hobbit related piece. Quickly to give an explanation the barrels are full of Dwarves escaping (with the help of Bilbo Baggins and his magic ring) from the Elven King's domain of Mirkwood.

This time I used one of my new Blicks gold linoleum which proved to be harder to carve (using a hair dryer did help immensely to soften the texture) but I believe the quality of the cut was greater. I will have to invest in a stop or bench hook to give my forearms a break. Of course there are my fingers to consider too.

I also purchased their printers paper as well and thought it was worth it.

As you can see the finer lines of the barrels really stood out in this piece so all in all I'm pretty happy with the switch. I tried also to leave more areas uncut to give the water more texture. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to give more detail to poor Bilbo whose hanging on the one of the barrels.

I love this, LM, and I wouldn't worry about giving Bilbo more detail - some things are best left to the imagination!

This is a sweet one. They do stand out very nicely. Gives the picture some great depth. Hope they drank what was in those barrels before they tossed em.
